Goshen Wins 6th Place Trophy at NY State Tournament
The Goshen Junior Science Olympiad Team placed 6th in the State at the Finals of New York’s Science Olympiad Competition last weekend. This placement was an improvement over last year’s 7th place ranking. The team traveled to Syracuse, NY on April 5th & 6th to participate in 26 different STEM-related events at East Syracuse-Minoa High School.
At the State Competition, Goshen placed 6th out of the 39 competing teams and medaled in 12 of the 26 events. A full list of medals awarded include:
First place: Game On
Third place: Meteorology
Fourth place: Crime Busters, Battery Buggy, and Parasitology
Fifth place: Elastic Launch Gliders
Sixth place: Boomilever, Disease Detective, Roller Coaster, Water Quality
Seventh place: Dynamic Planet
Eighth place: Potions and Poisons
The team is lead by head coach Becky DenDanto, and assistant coaches Laura Muller, Warren Young and Christina Pahucki along with help from a large group of parent and community volunteers. The team could not have achieved all they did without the generous support of the local businesses that provided sponsorships: Orange & Rockland, Lanc & Tully, Nugent & Haeussler, M&T Bank and Media Vision Advertising.
