Goshen Science Olympiad Junior Team Earns First Place Trophy at Regional Competition
Goshen, NY. – Goshen Science Olympiad’s two junior teams competed in the New York State Mid-Hudson Division B Regional Tournament at Monroe Middle School on Saturday March 23rd. The teams from Goshen placed first and second overall and the win allows 15 team members to go on to compete at the NY State Competition in Syracuse on April 5th and 6th! Goshen’s Junior SciOly teams dominated the competition earning 18 first place medals, 10 second place medals and 5 third place medals!
The Division B teams earned medals in many events including:
Anatomy & Physiology: 1st place, 3rd place
Battery Buggy: 1st place, 2nd place
Boomilever: 1st place
Circuit Lab: 1st place, 3rd place
Crime Busters: 1st place, 2nd place
Density Lab: 1st place, 2nd place
Disease Detective: 1st place
Duct Tape Challenge: 2nd place
Dynamic Planet: 1st place, 3rd place
Elastic Launched Glider: 1st place
Fossils: 1st place, 2nd place
Heredity: 1st place, 3rd place
Herpetology: 1st place, 2nd place
Meteorology: 1st place, 2nd place
Parasitology: 1st place, 2nd place
Potions & Poisons: 1st place
Road Scholar: 1st place, 3rd place

Science Olympiad is dedicated to improving the quality of science education by encouraging students to explore topics including biology, chemistry, physics, epidemiology, astronomy, computer science and engineering in the STEM competition. The students who are a part of the Goshen Science Olympiad team pursue their passion for science by dedicating approximately 10 hours a week to prepare for their competitions.
The senior team consists of students from 9th grade through 12th grade. They are led by head coach Becky Dendanto, and assistant coaches Laura Muller, Warren Young and Christina Pahucki, with generous support from a large group of parent and community volunteers. They have received generous support from local businesses including: Orange & Rockland, Lanc & Tully, Nugent & Haeussler, M&T Bank and Media Vision Advertising.
